<Zoom In> 은 중앙대학교 사진학과 디지털미디어 프로젝트 수업 수강생들이 40여 개의 개별 프로젝트를 선보이는 온라인 전시회이다. 이 모든 프로젝트에는 하나의 원칙이 있다. 참여하는 모든 젊은 예술가들은 자신이 기획한 프로젝트를 완성하기 위해 반드시 새로운 기술을 배워야 한다는 원칙이다. 작가들은 모두 동일하게 10주 동안 새로운 기술을 배우고 프로젝트를 만드는 시간을 가졌다. 그리고 이 프로젝트 이후, 작가들은 그동안 배운 새로운 기술을 공유하기 위해 워크샵을 열 예정이다. 우리 모두가 3월 초부터 사회적 거리두기를 생활화하면서, 작가들의 예술 작품 제작에 접근하는 방법이 매우 다양해졌다. 팝송 쓰기, 케이크 만들기, 피아노 배우기, 미술 편의점 만들기, 도자기 꽃병 만들기, 사진으로 피어싱 해보기, 성인 장난감 브랜드 이미지 바꾸기, 조부모님 인터뷰 해보기, 잃어버린 봄을 코딩하기, 추억의 캡슐 제작해보기 등의 방법이 나왔다. 이 모든 방법은 20대 청춘들의 즉각적인 관심에서 출발했다. 이 (코로나바이러스로 인한) 사태는 어쩌면 물리적인 세계와의 접촉을 예기치 않게 잃어버린 것이 될 수도 있다. 그리고 이 사태는 어쩌면 우리들의 내면에 대한 탐험이 될 수도 있다. 이 프로젝트들은 생산적이어야 한다는 강박관념이 아니라, 한 발짝 물러서서 우리들의 주변을 다시 살펴보고자 하는 것이다. 작가들은 세계적인 바이러스 대유행과 그로 인한 불황 때문에 세계가 붕괴될 때 이해할 수 있는 무언가를 만들고자 한다.

<Zoom In>
Zoom In is an online exhibition showcasing 40 individual projects by students of digital media project classes of the Department of Photography at Chung-Ang University. There is one principle to all these projects. Every participating young artist must learn a new skill to complete a self-directed project. They had 10 weeks to learn and make, all at the same time. Shortly after the project, they would organise workshops to share their new skills. As we all practise social distancing since the beginning of March, the approaches of art-making become very diverse. Be it writing a pop song, making a cake, learning to play the piano, building an art convenience store, making a ceramic vase, piercing with photographs, rebranding adult toys, interviewing grandparents, coding a lost spring, manufacturing capsules of memories. All these have departed from the immediate concerns of a group of youthful souls in their early twenties. This may be an unexpected loss of the contact of the physical world. It may well be an exploration to their inner worlds too. It is not an obsession of being productive, but to step back and look again at their surroundings. They try to make sense when the world fractures during the global pandemic recession.
